My son did a great time navigating the Bar/Bat Mitzvah world. Number one rule: Go right to the top -Talk to the maitre de or chef directly. Also, write a note on the response card - My son will need a gluten-free meal (no wheat, rye, barley, oats or spelt; no fried foods or soy sauce). If you could let the caterer know, we would really appreciate it. Please call me if you have any questions.
Like Susan said, eat before you go (especially if the service is right beforehand.)
Stock up on sushi!
